About the Lutar (Stave-Back Guitar)

The Lutar or Stave-Back Guitar was created by Carl Samuels. It is a hybrid combination of lute and guitar.
This combination results in a rich bass and clear sustaining treble, and is eagerly sought after by traditional classical and flamenco guitarists.

Six- and ten-string lutar soundboxes have been made of different woods including East Indian rosewood, quilted maple, cocobolo and, more recently, even stainless steel. The lutar or stave-back guitar is noteworthy for significantly more power and volume, enhancing the instrument's dynamic range; excellent projection and well-balanced tone; superior clarity and note separation; extraordinary sustainment and 'ring'; a broader spectrum of auditory colors, tones and textures; heightened responsivity, reacting to the lightest touch; a rich, beautiful sound with powerful basses and brilliant trebles. If you have any questions about lutars please see our F.A.Q. or Contact me.
